Luis Enrique did not think that he would leave the Spanish national team after being eliminated in the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup.


According to Cadena SER, the coach wanted to continue working with the Spanish national team.


The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) believes that Enrique hoped to receive an offer to extend his contract, but the federation leadership did not do this. His current agreement with the RFEF expired following Spain`s participation in the 2022 World Cup.


The RFEF invited Enrique to issue a joint statement announcing his resignation, but the coach refused.
